13 famous people I've met.
1 Anne Rice
I met her at a book signing. I'm a big fan of the Vampire Chronicles, and even included her stories in to a report about book adaptations. Anywhoo, I don't remember what we talked about, but I'm glad I met her when I did. Apparently she became a born again Christian and stopped writing about Lestat. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
2 Terry McMillan
I wrote about meeting her a few weeks ago. It was awesome. She was just so breezy. So comfortable. Loves it.
3 Maya Angelou
She was sitting in a wheelchair in the lobby when I walked over to her, my entire bank in my hand (hundreds of dollars). I would have gladly lost my job to meet her. She was so sweet and peaceful. And she looks like she could have been thinking up a poem.
4 ludacris
I was 17, it was Christmas. My friend Melanie, an intern at DTP, called me and asked if I wanted to hold some signs up in exchange for meeting Luda. Yes maam! I had listened to him every day after school when he was 97.5's Chris Lova Lova and loved him since. I missed my chance at the skating rink so she got us in at the Bounce, this GHETTO ass club from back in the day. Anyways, it was 2am when I met him. He called me beautiful. Nothing could get me down after that. Even finding out my boyfriend was cheating on me.
5 Isaac Hayes
I don't remember why he was in the hotel. All I remember is he got a roast beef sandwich. And he was real mellow. Cool as you would think. This was before he left south park, I think a few months before. He was awesome.
6 Chris Daughtry
Last summer he came into the store and stood at the magazine rack. Not many people recognized him. He didn't seem to mind. He was really lovely. And cute for a bald guy. His band came down later and kept me company (and I, them, I'm sure) later that day. I decided to buy their album because I liked them as people. The album wasn't my that great. He should have just joined Fuel when they offered instead d remaking their music. But whateva.
7 Ronnie devoe
Scream! I loves me some new edition. Ronnie came into the hotel and I fawned and told him that he was my first concert when I was 5. I even got a picture! Then I fell out. No lie. After he left, I hit the floor.
8 the chick from blaque who didn't leave, but not the one who raps.
After I picked myself up from the floor I went back to work. I was serving this chick who looked familiar. I asked if she went to Howard. No... My high school? Nope. I couldn't figure it out. "I was in Blaque." oh yeah! Boom like an 808, yada yada. Oh yeah, she's married to Ronnie and has this SERIOUS ring. I mean, you could kill someone with an errant wave hello with that thing. Later we heard stories about how she flashed the bartender and claimed to have a 3rd nipple.
9 Elizabeth Rohm
I knew her from Angel, before I started watching Law and Order. I walked into the service elevators and there she was! I squeaked. She called me adorable and took a picture with me.
10 Mercedes Mcnabb
If you hadn't known, I'm a big buffy/angel fan (shout out to Rashan!) so when Harmony walked into my job I freaked out. She said I was more enthusiastic than most of the people who paid to see her. She asked if I was working the next day and promised to come back and take a picture with me. And she did! Its stuff like that that makes a person cool to me.
11 Kevin sorbo
Mo hit on him so hard last year. I mean, she still has his picture on her mantel. And she did that "hurcules, hurcules" clapping thing from Nutty Professor. Lordie. My friends, I tell ya.
12 lavar Burton
My friend said I had to say "but don't take my word for it!" when I saw him. I didn't. But I did tell him that he was my reading hero as a kid and that my mom is a TNG trekkie to the core. He really did a lot for kids back in the day. And roots? Don't get me started.
13 Judge Mathis
He bought baby oil, condoms and mints. Hot night for the judge! Lol he was there speaking to a boys group. See, when I tell you I'd take yall on judge Mathis when you owe me money, its not just a threat. Me and him go way back.

Let's talk about something else...
*so Saturday I went off to walmart to buy yarn (technically that's not talking about crochet, lol), and when I come to the counter with about 6 skeins of what could only be described as froot loop colors, the girl says to me, "you're not gonna use these to braid your hair, are you?" my eyes got so big. I thought she was crazy! "noooo." "ya people have been doing that lately. Its cheaper than regular braids." oh. My. God. What? I have no desire to walk around looking like a cabbage patch kid, thanks. What the hell is wrong with people?
*you ever notice that Andre 3000 says the most dirty stuff in his songs, but he's so clever about it? He's quite frequently rapping/singing about oral sex. Meanwhile there's other rappers who say stuff like "my d*** on swole and I know your p***** wet, your mouth saying no but your body sayin yes." first of all, date rape anyone? Secondly, ew! Mystery, people! Let me laugh at the fact that you got your double entendre past the censors, instead of running into your uncensored version and turning into my mom.
*is anyone else watching True Blood? Its on HBO Sunday nights. Its about this small Louisiana town and how they deal with the fact that vampires are now a more common part of society. There's a metaphorical comparison to racism and homophobia and other types of discrimination. All the characters are so good. I love Tara, who said her mother was either a hateful bitch or an idiot for naming her after a plantation, lol. Its only 3 episodes in, so watch it if you like that sort of thing. Oh and its written by Alan ball, who did 6 feet under.
*my mom asked me if I'd let Kesi go to the strip club if we were married. I told her I didn't know. The truth is, I didn't know how to tell her I don't really care because he's cheap and since he watches lots of porn, I'm sure he'd be uninterested in what he could see for free at home, lol. But that's tmi for mom.
* Kesi's manager's uncle "found the thing what done made Viagra." That is to say he discovered the thing that causes the chemical reaction that makes men aroused. But she sounded so country when she said that to us last night, it was kinda hard to believe.
*i got drunk(ish) on rum runners and kamikazes Wednesday night at a show I went to. It wasn't so bad. I mean, I almost fell out of breezy's car, but you know, that could happen anytime. I was praying my mom was asleep, but alas it was only 130am, and she was sitting right in the living room. But I don't think she noticed, lol. Oh yeah, I saw this guy who I had a crush on in middle school. He made quite a clever joke comparing my Coach pig keychain and Sarah Palin. And La, he said he is muscle skinny, lmao.
*my ES, who now has nothing to do with me, thank God, actually got mad because the chick who took my place (who btw is pregnant) needed a few days off because her husband's fam died. She actually said, "its not like he lived here..." wow, bitch! Why are you so insensitive? So the CM was like, "thank you lord that I am not that insensitive," and EM actually got mad! This from the woman that made one associate bring an obituary back, and told another that she was being silly when she started crying because her sister was in the hospital. There is seriously not an ounce of compassion in her.

Look what I can do!
I Googled some crochet stuff last night and came up with some great ideas. I didn't see anyone come at the angle I'm coming from, but I was inspired. I'll tell you now, I saw a tetris blanket and I wanna do one.
Ps, my mom decided to take the blanket to work with her and didn't bring it home! That's why the background is my lovely comforter and not the art she created (so you can see where I get it from).

13 things I'm looking forward to
1 metallica and deftones and kanye cds!
Before I was allowed to go to concerts metallica played the family values tour. But their lead singer James injured himself and couldn't play the Atlanta stop and so kid rock and the lead singers from korn and limp bizkit sang in his place. Do you know how much I would have loved to be there? Ugh! Anyways, I really like funky, hard, heavy rock music with really powerful lead singers and sick drummers. And these bands both have them. And they're putting out albums before the end of the year. Actually metallica is #1 this week. And so I need to make arrangements to hit the target. And kanye. Love Lockdown. Awesome song. And there's rumors his next CD will be out before Christmas! Yay!
2 Kesi's birthday.
We're 3 months apart, so I can see how he handles being 25 before I go through it, lol. And I've already got the celebration planned out. I'm that excited.
3 RAW
We're going to see WWE RAW for Kesi's birthday (a few weeks after his birthday actually) and I can't wait! Its gonna be so fun! Remember I'm going to dress like John Cena.
4 50% off associate discount
Usually during the slow period my hotel chain will let associates stay in rooms for free for a certain number of nights, to encourage travel. This year they're doing 50% off, which is actually better, because I don't really leave town much. So now I can stay in a hotel for cheaper! Huzzah!
5 breezy's Halloween party.
Tentatively its at this 4H cabin halfway between his house and mine. Its the perfect kind of creepy (I've been to a party there before and I remember saying that Jason was gonna jump out of the woods and kill us) and its gonna be so fun! And I get to be what I wanted to be last year.... Lol.
6 the election!
Its less than 2 months away and I'm looking forward to how this will play out. I have what they call "hope." its apparently contagious. And I'm praying and acting. I really want Barack to win!
7 friendaversary
October 22 is the friendaversary. Celebrating 72 years of friendship. I don't know what tops a tattoo as a gift, but we'll work on it.
8 new years
For obvious reasons. i don't know what I'm doing that night but I'll be out of work crazy early and partying it up!
9 the Christmas party
I love the work Christmas parties. I decided I'm going to wear red and black again. And hopefully a CERTAIN young man will come with me so I won't get hit on by that guy from events. Ew.
10 killer mike and crew at CW
Next Thursday! Mike, niko villamor, priceless and oh... Someone else, I cant remember them all. I'm so ready. The show is only $15. Yesss!
11 Kesi's cousin's wedding.
Its in saint Louis. I loves the weddings. And I love his family too. And besides the fact that its a strange mix of city and country, I love saint Louis too.
12 indecision 08 coverage
I love the daily show and colbert and no matter what happens that night I know I'll be laughing at them.
13 my brother's birthday.
He'll be 20! No longer a teen! Maybe more responsible! Pointing out your sister's oldness because she remembered the day you were born! Lol.
What are you looking forward to?

New new
The other was for my coworker's brand new grand daughter, and he rolled around the corner right in time with that lil announcement photo. "you know I make baby blankets right?" We were on the phone with his daughter in minutes talking colors.
I got another I'm finishing for my friend Reka. Look for it at the Howard Homecoming - I'll be there in spirit. The pix will be up as soon as she gets it.
In other news, I finally got some privacy. A Lil shade to cover the doorway to my bedroom. Its not a door but it'll keep people from peeking in to see what I'm doing as they do their laundry. Dammit. Kesi and I had quite the time trying to put it up last night seeing how I don't actually have a door frame per se. He had on shades to keep the dust from my ceiling tiles from falling in his eyes and I had to stand on my extra cushy ottoman so I could reach the ceiling and hold up the blinds. I'm so short. Anyways after realizing we needed a drill, then finding a drill and realizing we didn't have an extension cord or a bore bit, then hammering nails into the spots and pulling the nails out and driving the proper screws in instead of drilling, we got the damn thing up. And now I have to sweep. That's what a $5 walmart shade gets you.
Tomorrow I'm going to a show at Lenny's at 5 points. I'll be sure to take tons of pictures!

A little sad
So... After I posted that story about almost getting whooped over a secret, I went on facebook to see if I could find some of the people I mentioned in it. Guess what? I found EVERY ONE! Except Adela, but I'm working on it. I even found the girl who almost beat me up, but I didn't try to add her. We have no other connections, lol.
So anyways, over the past few days I've been emailing them, checking out pictures, seeing who's still friends with who and ended up where. They all still remember me, which is cool, and they all look the same, which apparently is also true of me.
I'm sad because in my mind, people are where they were when I left the. Everyone I emailed and requested and have talked to, they were still 11 in my head. Now I'm seeing kids, and marriages, ivy league credentials, vacations and so much more that I can't describe. These people have lived 13 years without me. They aren't who they were back then.
I missed it. And its my fault really. I didn't say a thing that last day of school. I cried for my best friend, who was brave enough to say she was moving away. Hid my tears from moving hundreds of miles away behind that reason. Instead of telling them what was wrong... These were my friends. I pretty much abandoned them. So I guess I'm sad with regret.
"Yea, it was crazy coming to school the first day of sixth grade. You were the only one I was really looking forward to seeing, and it really hurt not seeing you, anyway lol."
The boy who pinned me to the wall and kissed me when we were 5 said that to me today.
So yeah. Just a lil sad. I wish I could go back and change that day. Get some numbers and addresses. But I was so "tough" back then (another childhood friend's words, not mine) that I kept myself at a length. All I can do now is try to catch up.

I choose my choice!
Ladies and gents, I am so pro choice. Like, hard. I come from a place where there were 2 pregnant girls in my 8th grade class. Where I have friends with babies and abortions. Friends who got married only to be now divorced or on their way. Where I passed out or sold condoms (for $.25) in school before prom because I worked in cvs and was one of few whose mom told me to go to planned parenthood. I've made my good decisions and bad decisions, and I have no room to judge.
You figure a woman who ran away to elope and had a baby 8 months later would tell her daughter not to make the same mistake. You figure SHE of all people would have a more realistic view than "abstinence only." but no. Now she's a grandma. And you CANNOT tell me that she didn't for a second think, "we can just have an abortion and no one will know." I wouldn't think it was a big deal- 17 year olds get pregnant all the time, thanks to lack of education and resources- if it wasn't for all the deafening hypocrisy in the situation. Even hypocrisy is human. Just own up to that shit. Stop trying to paint this situation as something its not. That boy does not want to marry her. He didn't even want kids, lol. Your family and his family got together and decided what was the best way to save face. Some money was even probably exchanged. And it helps that yall are from Alaska. The cost of living is super low, and thanks to oil subsidies, that child gets $300/yr just for being born.
So anyways, I don't want someone who's gonna ask me to respect her child's CHOICE but has no respect for mine. I would choose to have my baby if I got pregnant today (and trust that it would be sooo unplanned). but I'm in a long term, monogamous relationship. Not everyone, including this woman's daughter, can say that. And none of those people have any bearing on MY choice. And so Sarah Plain and Tall (ha! X I see you!) should have no bearing on anyone else's. Don't think you are better than anyone because you had a shotgun wedding. Because you kept your baby and gave him a stupid name.
This is just my interpretation of the situation. I have no beef with Bristol, and honestly I think she's being used as a pawn, and if her moms boring ass wasn't running for VP she'd be telling a different story and her boo would still have that mullet. Anyways, I do have beef with her mom, and the type of people that almost ran my mom down while protesting when she was going to get a pregnancy test, cuz they thought she was trying to abort me. The type of people who put themselves on a pedistal for having more opportunities than others, for passing judgement on situations they themselves have never been in.
OBAMA 08 son!
Yes we can, because we still have rights!

some pix
monday i went to a show called Welcome Home Hip Hop. im sure the video will be up soon if you wanna youtube. mine will be up today, or tomorrow. anyway, this is Life the Great. he;s cool. got a retro sound. thats my friend Work Sam in the back.
And I'm back!
I tired and I lost my voice on Friday. I've been hearing that I sound like a man since then. My voice is so gone I can't sing Toni braxton. Yeah.
There's a pic of me resting on the shelf at work. I was just so tired!
Kesi came by and surprised me at work. It was so sweet of him! Brightened my day.
This guy led me to believe he was Frank Miller, the animator of 300 and Sin City. His name was actually Frank Miller, and so when I asked him if he was THE Frank Miller, he kept going "shh, shh," like "I don't want people to know its me." so then I googled him and he looks nothing like the guy. Nothing. He came back and I was gnna call him out but I was too tired so I just gave him an evil look.
I made lots of tips. But I overdrew my acct.
My friend Hotel Sam (as opposed to Ruby Sam, who works with Kesi) saw Danity Kane from backstage Saturday night. You know I was outdone right? She knows another of my highschool friends, Larry, who of course is cool with Dwoods, and they got back there. Meanwhile I was washing a million dishes. I was so over her! But hanging out with her last night I can see why people love her so much. She's literally crazy.
I got a Barack magnet. He's posed like Rosie the rivetter and it says "yes we can!"
Some costumes were awesome, some were wack to the nth degree. I have pix. You'll see them thurs.
I left work at 230 Saturday night. I spent 1.5 hrs washing dishes. That's how much crap we used. And the other closers left me and Breezy. Wackery.
I touched a drag queen's boob @3am outside a bar. I could tell the difference. But they were very well done.
Green card has trouble with American names. She spelled Robin "raban," Justin "jastan," Stephanie "stapny," Rayne "ran" and the list goes on. It was hilarious calling those drinks. Who? What?
Went to a local hip hop artist showcase last night. It was pretty awesome, but some acts were hurting my heart. I'd definitely check out Yellowwolf and Life the Great cuz I dig them, lol.
My ex supervisor came back to "help" for the busy weekend. She was barely around. Then she complained that this was her weekend off for her new job so she only got one day off. Honestly she was getting paid to do nothing, so she coulda kept her ass home.
My girl Mary Lou and I worked cold bar. Industrial buckets of frapp mix and mocha. I'm talking straight jugs. We slaved man. but we also danced and sang while mixing drinks. At one point a hotel employee tried to break the line and get some free stuff while Mary and I were singing John Legend. We had to tell him to "take it slow, oh oh...." we had the whole room cracking up.
**I'll be back with a real post later today. I haven't seen Kesi since Friday and we need some qt. Also some things need illustration. Holla!**
